Amity undertakes an illicit drug intervention and referral awareness project that provides a counselling services for people affected by illicit drug use and concerned others. This project also works to increase awareness of illicit drugs from a harm reduction framework and provides referral pathways information to other health professionals in regards to treatment options for their clients.
The key aims of the project consist of the following:
- To develop networks and relationships with relevant service providers, organisations and venues of illicit drug treatment or use
- To work closer with other agencies that identify illicit drug use and need to refer for intervention e.g. legal system, GPs, Health clinics, welfare services etc.
- Develop harm minimisation approaches/techniques with relevant service providers, organisations and venues to address illicit substance use
- Provide information and referral options for those affected by illicit drug use
Ultimately, the overall purpose of this project is to provide counselling/ intervention, education and referral options for those affected by illicit drug use (including their significant others) through Amity’s services.
